Home / Saving Tips
Improving the efficiency of your devices is important, but your habits and those of your family can play a big role in reducing your water consumption. Try combining some of our water saving solutions with some of these tips to make a real difference to your water bill – and the environment.
BATHROOM
Teeth brushing
Leaving the tap running while brushing your teeth can waste nine litres of water every minute. That’s 6,570 litres a year (based on a two-minute tooth-brushing session every day)
Take showers, not baths
Switching from a daily bath to a daily shower could save up to 15000 litres a year. Also, try to reduce the time you spend in the shower, invest in a water-efficient shower head, and turn off the water when shampooing your hair
Toilet
We literally flush hundreds of liters of water away every month. If your toilet has an old-style flush, you can save 1 litre of water each flush by fitting a displacement bag. Check your toilet regularly for leaks by putting a few drops of food colouring in the tank. If, without flushing, the color appears in the bowl after 15-20 minutes, you have a leak which should be fixed to avoid further water wastage
Taps
Did you know that a tap that drips just once per second wastes 2,700 gallons of water annually? Make sure to turn taps off properly after use

KITCHEN
Kitchen sink
Conserve water when hand-washing dishes by partially filling the sink with soapy water and quickly rinsing dishes with a spray device or in a pan of warm water. Clean vegetables in a partially-filled sink rather than under a continuously running tap. Install an aerator attachment on your taps to use up to 25% less water
Dishwasher
Water-efficient dishwashers use less water and less energy to heat the water than standard models.
Use full loads to save water and energy and use the shortest cycle available

LAUNDRY
Only turn on the washing machine when there’s a full load. Choose an appropriate wash cycle for the load size and use the shortest cycle possible. Eight to ten minutes will suffice for most laundry requirements. Only use environmentally friendly laundry products
OUTSIDE
Water your garden early in the morning or later in the evening. Avoid midday, when the sun is at its strongest and evaporation levels at their highest. Use waterless car washes for your vehicles rather than hoses. Sweep your drive ways and pavements rather than hosing them down with water
